| Summary | 0001163: [SWAN] Volume index change when HDMI unplug | ||||
| Description | Hi Wooshin, We found a issue about the volume change when turn off some TV. Here is a simple method to reproduce. When HDMI is unplugged, the sound sounds louder or quieter than the original. It may be a issue of user experience. Thanks. | ||||
| Steps To Reproduce | 1. Play youtube music and set volume is 5 index. 2. Unplug HDMI, and then sound will be louder. 3. Plug HDMI, the sound sounds like 5 index. | ||||
| Additional Information | We found the behavior of volume changes in android framework when HDMI is plugged or unplugged. ./frameworks/base/services/core/java/com/android/server/audio/AudioService.java You can use "dumpsys audio" commands to dump the following information. Please check the streamVolume field of STREAM_BTV. Hi Wooshin, As far as I know, some TV will send hot plug event to STB when TV off. if user listen to YouTubeMusic then turn off TV, I think this issue may happen. Sita provided a way to easily reproduce this issue, playing YouTube then unplugging HDMI cable. If previous volume is very low, after unplugging HDMI cable, the volume index will change to 24. The sound suddenly becomes louder, it will bother user. Could you check this issue with SPTEK? |

Hi jason, I will check it and update. Thanks. |

This issue is controlled on below link. https://jira.skbroadband.com/browse/BTVSBOX-461 |
Hi jason, Root cause of this issue is https://mantis.cnsbg.foxconn.com/vaas/view.php?id=1069. Please create ticket on Synaptics's JIRA for it. Thanks. |

Hi Wooshin, There is already an similar issue (https://synaextjira.atlassian.net/browse/SKBSBALT-126) under discussion. Do we need to open a new one? Thanks. |
Hi Sita, I think you don't need. Thanks. |
Hi Wooshin, I'm sorry. I though there is an similar issue (SKBSBALT-126) which is wrong. Because volume change or synchronization is the behavior of audio services in android framework. And this issue is related to HDMI device instead of SPDIF device. I think root cause of this issue is not 0001069. After SPTEK committed (https://bitbucket.skbroadband.com/projects/BTVSBOX/repos/platform-frameworks-base/commits/86c0756db51a81b94e9fe553bae5c4ab155426d9), this issue does not be reproduced after testing this issue again. Thanks. |
Hi sita, Yes, it is workaround of SPTEK for SPDIF issue. After applying synaptics's patch for https://synaextjira.atlassian.net/browse/SKBSBALT-126, we have to check this issue again. Thanks. |
Hi Wooshin, Our QA members found new issues that can easily occur after applying this workaround issue: Passthrough is not working. (no audio from HDMI), but after rebooting the STB, the issue disappeared. Our QA members captured audio status by following 2 commands dumpsys audio dumpsys media.audio_flinger Please forward the attachment to SPTEK for analysis. audio_pt_fail.zip (switch from Btv to Passthrough mode, the issue occurred, no audio from HDMI) audio_pt_ok.zip (rebooting STB, the issue disappeared) |
Hi Jason, Let me check it and i will forward to SPTEK. Thanks. |

The original issue is fixed by MW as described in Synaptics Jira126. And the pass-through issue reported by our SQA is fixed by following commit. commit 15001ac8c78c43bd7b5d113451d19532d342ea1a Author: river wong <river.wong@fii-foxconn.com> Date: Thu Jan 7 11:09:41 2021 +0800 Avoid passthrough mode does not work when passthrough mode is enable before system boot. |
